This month we’re ‘Chasing the Tale’ of Murdoch & Skip
The Best of Friends
As we approach the festive season, we celebrate the joys of having our favourite people (and pups of course!) by our side. Murdoch Collins is the co-founder and Sales Director of hyped new men’s skincare label, Black Leopard. He tells us all about life with his best mate, Skip, a 5 year old Labrador x Weimaraner, who he takes with him wherever he can…
LIFE WITH SKIP
How did Skip come into your life?
My first dog was a Dalmatian named Sam. I got her when I was 5. She passed away when I was 20. So for a while I was happy not to rush and find another dog, I wanted to make sure I was ready for another one. Work was pretty crazy and I needed to make sure that if I got a dog, I would have time for it. Eventually the stars aligned and I started looking. The first puppy I saw was Skip. He was a big fat thing that didn’t even move when I came over to him.
I had to wait for another person to visit the pups that day that was driving from South Australia. There was only two left. Skip and another girl. I was so set on Skip. Thankfully the other people didn’t find Skips chubby laziness as appealing as I did. So when I came back and saw that my little bud was still just chilling. Fat as ever. I was over the moon!
DOG OR PEOPLE PERSON?
People person for sure. He doesn’t care much for other dogs. He will hang around people like a bad smell.
TRAITS & QUIRKS
He has the most amazing nature. He is so beautiful and gentle. He’s a 45kg dog, but the way he is with kids and how gentle he can be is truly remarkable.
He has the most amazing ability to open the rubbish bin. I don’t know how he does it. I have an apartment with a bin under the sink that slid out. To this day, coming home to find the contents of the bin all over the apartment baffles me. I wish I had set up a camera.
BRUNCH & BINGE
For Brunching –
I’ll take him anywhere. I’ll order food for me, and toast for him. The Club House in Malvern is never a bad option. He’s been seduced by a muffin or two there.
Netflix binge – Hahah we love all the Animal documentaries. He sits on the couch like a human and just stares.
LOVE & LIFE
How has having Skip changed your life?
He is one of the most consistent things in my life, other than family. Works changes. Girls come and go. But my mate Skip is always there. At the end of every day. Happy and enthusiastic. Makes it hard to have a bad day.
And Skip is always available for a photo op. haha. God damn he’s handsome!
ONE PERFECT DAY
We have a favourite spot. 13th Beach in Barwon Heads. We drive out there. Play on the beach. Then hit the local bakery after and share a few treats. Perfection.
CRAZY DOG DAD??
Nah. But I love Skip. He’s just perfect. I don’t spoil him or do anything over the top. But we just get along so well. He’s my boy!
